1. General information
The goals of the subject are the knowledge of the foundations, concepts and methods of the geographical analysis of the population, the understanding of the processes and explanatory factors of the diversity of characteristics and behaviour of the demographic systems and the interrelations with the territorial system.
These approaches and goals are aligned with the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations Agenda 2030, so that the acquisition of the learning results of the subject provides skills and competence to contribute to some extent to their achievement:

2. Learning results
Correct use of fundamental concepts and terms in Population Geography
Interpret and assess the complexity of the factors and processes involved in the differentiation of territorial demographic systems.
Identify the rates of evolution of the world's populations and their spatial effects.
To argue the importance of the structural characteristics of populations.
To understand the relevance of the study of population within territorial systems.
Identify, select and evaluate the main databases for the study of the population.
Correctly apply methods and techniques of population analysis.
3. Syllabus
Unit I: Introduction to the study of Population Geography.
Unit II: Spatial distribution of the population.
Unit III: Population structure.
Unit IV: Dynamics of demographic systems.
Unit V: Spatial mobility of populations.
Unit VI: Population growth, sustainability and policies
4. Academic activities
- Master class, where the contents of the subject are presented, promoting participation
- Problem solving and case studies: analysis and handling of sources; graphic and cartographic treatment applied to the population, interpretation and commentary of documents
- Special practices: Field trip or visit
- Personal study
- Evaluation test
5. Assessment system
The subject will be assessed by the continuous assessment system by means of the following activities:
Test 1. Delivery of a portfolio integrated by practices related to the different thematic units. (50%) Test 2. Written test of theoretical and practical knowledge that includes short or objective questions, outlines and comments. (50%)
Assessment criteria: Correctness in the development, structure and formal presentation of the papers; accuracy in the contents; adequacy of the methodology applied; correct use of bibliography and other materials. The final theoretical and practical testwill evaluate the clarity and accuracy of the answers to the questions asked.
